yes, you are right. the escon interfaces have a "block timer" on them to
delay things for 5 milliseconds in order to batch up the traffic on the
channel. i'll look into lowering this value. thanks for the tip!

That delay is probably config'ed in there. I don't remember where it
was, but I recall the d/t2216 has a setting to delay packets in the hope
of batching them together on the Escon interface. Better have a look and
maybe play with.
