I would decrease the memroy for the linux (from 1024 to 512 mb) and use
a vdisk as swap-space (512 mb). Then use xstorage for zvm-paging. Do
monitoring (performance and memory utilization with vmstat/sar). If
possible decrease the memory-size & swap-space for the linux-guest. Use
fcon/esa for monitoring too.
Your linux will page into the fast zvm vdisk. This should be no problem
and is much better then using dasd as swap storage.

You left out the the essential information: how much real do you have in
the partition? Linux engines tend to use in real what you give them as
Vsize.
So if sum(Vsizes) >> available real, you are going to page whatever you
do.

Also, do you have xstore defined? If not the paging may be simply due to
moves of real pages >2G to <2G. When there is no xstore CP has to do it
via dasd paging.

So what to do:
- define some xstore if not yet defined for move around the bar.
- shrink the total Vsize to something in range of the available real.
- ensure you have ample paging packs. If you have only the two shown
above that will probably not be enough. I myself routinely run ~300-400
pages/sec over 16 3390-3. No problem at all
- if nothing helps evaluate the real available and hope Santa has a big
budget to get you some more.
