There is a one for one relationship between a volume and a flashcopy. If your Linux is using 8 volumes, then you will need an additional 8 volumes to flashcopy to.
If you have 2 Linux systems using 8 volumes each, you could flashcopy one Linux system, perform your backup, and then flash the second Linux system. That way you will only need 8 flashcopy UCBs for both your Linux system. I hope this helps. To do a "flashcopy", do you than have a corresponding backup DASD volume for every linux guests volumes used? Thanks again. ----------------------------------------------------------- Ismael Ifurung Tel. (916) 739-7689 Health & Human Services Data Center Fax. (916) 739-7777 P.O. This takes about 8 seconds. We use FDR to take full volume backups at our convenience after Linux is back up and operational. We use FDR to take full volume backups of our z/VM DASD as well. We also utilized automated silos. We use FDR/Upstream as well to backup Linux on a file basis. These backups go to the z/OS FDR/Upstream server running on z/OS which write them to our automated tape silos. We also have processes in place to allow users to write files to specific Linux directories which we will sweep to tape using FDR/Upstream. It all works. Our zOS has all the latest equipments like silo automatic tape drives and backups done in the zOS would really be efficient. Thanks for any info.
