Ila, /proc/dasd/devices is not a real file, so that's not where you need to make your modifications.
What version of SUSE are you running? Do you have a /etc/zipl.conf file? If so, what's in it? If not, look in /boot/parmfile or something along those lines. Once I know the specifics of your system, I can tell you what you'll need to do. Every DASD has a unique device address. The Linux kernel auto-senses attached devices at boot time. This information is available in /proc/dasd/devices. Can I change the DASD address in this file to the new DASD address on the new ESS Shark, take an offlindr backup, and restore the offlindr backup to the new ESS Shark, boot and all will work? Has anyone had experience moving the DASD being used by S/390 Linux partitions (not z/VM) without reinstalling SuSE Linux on the new DASD? Ila Z.
