I've tried Suse service. I get one email reply every 24-36 hours. That was fine for some problems, this shows the need for a Level 1 support (which we just haven't found the money to pay for).
It took two weeks for them to come to the conclusion that installing via Windows SMB over a real CD, was never tested. So I went with an NFS type install. I couldn't use my Linux laptop as we are not suppose to use anything that isn't provided by the government (not especially a security thing, perhaps a virus thing, but...one consultant...ages ago....worked on a project using his own software....and left...and we can't maintain... type thing), so I installed another Suse 8.0 image under VM, copied the .iso files there, mounted and cp the files to an installroot directory...started having problems, but I thought I could get around them, when...month end...give us our disk packs back <arrrg!> But now on the tangent of installing Suse 9.0, via Windows/2000 SMB using a hard drive. The install.bat on the SLES CD1. Still have the same type of problems, but at least I get to them faster. And, trying to do the rest of my work. It's going to drive me to drink. Well, at least there is some good out of all of this<G>. Substitute the phrase "My long-established software with a 40-year history of refinement". Are you not getting help when you call the problem in? (I hope people are not treating Linux like a toaster and putting up with burnt toast. If the folks who write the installation tools don't get service calls the problems will never get fixed!)
