I remember a kernel oops with Samba, but I believe it was SLES-7. Apache was not involved. As I recall you could spark up Samba and get a share OK, but when you tried to write the first byte via SMB, the kernel oopsed. SuSE put a kernel patch out pretty quick - not sure about Red Hat, but I would agree with Daniel.
