That will tell you whether the network config succeeded. You may also need to set your MTU to 1492 since the OS/2 LCS emulation eats 8 bytes. I'm not entirely sure I remember this right, but I think if you add debconf/priority=low to the parmfile you boot with, you will get all manner of really obnoxious questions (incl. MTU) that are normally hidden from you and defaults assumed.
