Follow-up: I used YaST2 to configure hiperchannel, sort of. It is a bit confusing. However it did not bind the IP to the interface. I had to manually do it. In that process it cycled "eth0" as well! I am not sure if the IP that I bound to "hsi1" hipersockets will survive a reboot. However I find that in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth1 !!
