Log the session output.  Does it disconnect at the same time each place?

My initial guess would be that you're running out of memory in the
Linux guest.

That may be a reasonable conclusion. Instead of using cpan, I 'wget'ed the
tar.gz and installed normally. Everything went like a charm.
The guest has 128M with a swap of 70MB. I guess perl+cpan+processes killed
the session.
