Thanks to all for the info.  IBM usually supplies a list of hotels that they 
recommend but this
training site is new for IBM so they couldn't help me.

Excuse the "me too" post, but we've stayed twice at a Hampton Inn in
Secaucus.  The rate last year for three of us was in the $80-90 range,
and there was a bus stop across the street: a few bucks and twenty
minutes later you're in the Port Authority terminal.

Of course, it might be 400 miles from Port Authority to where you want
to be.  My knowledge of NYC geography only extends to the subway maps.
