Doing LVM with Yast is a pain. I hope someone at Novell is listening. Run level editor is also a dangerous thing. Please do something to make Yast reliable and robust. __________________________________________ Ranga Nathan / CSG Systems Programmer - Specialist; Technical Services; BAX Global Inc. But I guess it was a problem with yast. This is with SLES9 without any maintenance. When you go into LVM within Yast, you need to add a group, with the default being "system". Once you add it, it immediately comes up with a request to add another group. I would cancel this request as I only wanted to add a single physical group. Then I go to add volumes to the physical group. The counter that would show the amount of physical space in group, starts at zero and then blanks out. When I'm finished with adding the 5 volumes, I add the logical group with "max" space defined. All sorts of errors. I went back to manual mode and lvremove and pvremove everything manually, and then tried to go back to yast. Still the same garbage. So, I went back to manual mode, removed the old stuff from yast, and manually created the LVM. I did then run the mkinstrd and zipl. I also had to update fstab to mount the LVM at ipl time. Rebooted and it was still there.... Now, I'm reftping the 5 GB that I had out there. BTW, the method I used to backout and be able to IPL again was: cd /etc cp fstab fstab.save cat fstab ed fstab 8 n - make sure I have the correct line number 8 d 8 n wq reboot Sometimes line editors are a quick means to excape problems Tom Duerbusch THD Consulting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
