Ok, was this before, or after you answered the questions on the console about the installation source? (NFS, SAMBA, FTP, Abort). If before, then you jumped to telnet too soon, even though it says you can. (This was a bug in the SLES8 installer as well.) You need to go through the process of specifying where to find the installation materials so that the installer can pull over the remainder of the installer, part of which is YaST.
