<snip> It looks as though you're trying to install RPMs from SLES9 on a SLES8 system. Don't do that. If you need packages that are at the version levels in SLES9, then upgrade to SLES9. Trying to do otherwise will eventually result in just about the same thing, but with a whole lot more time spent (wasted), and greatly increased stress levels.
</snip> Yes, the RPMs came from SLES9. I see what I'm doing wrong. The RPMs were built for SLES9 (and with glibc 2.3) which is of course different from SLES8 (with glibc 2.2). Thanks, Mark.
