Hi.

Here's the background.

We're trying to setup a solution to shutdown all Linux Guests in case
the UPS starts working on Batteries.

For that, we want to have a Linux Guest monitoring the UPS state and
reporting to VM so it can issue a Shutdown signal to all the Linux
Guests. We've already figured out the part of VM sending the Shutdown
signal to the Linux Guests, but we can't solve the rest.

How Can it be done?
Is there a better way?

How does the UPS report a move-to-battery condition? There are
plenty of tools for Linux to respond to UPS signals, but AFAIK most
of them rely on things like, well, an RS-232 serial port, which is
going to be difficult to find on a zSeries. The trick is going to be
interfacing the UPS to the VM system, really. But if we know how it
sends that signal, we can probably come up with something.
