In /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config, comment out the last line (add the initial !): Change:
DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 to: !DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 I don't think xdm will start properly if this is set, since there's no local display. I know we had to do this to use xdm with a remote X server, but I don't have a system to play with right now, so I can't confirm whether or not this actually prevents xdm from starting. > -----Original Message----- > From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of > Michael MacIsaac > Sent: Wednesday, May 25, 2005 8:28 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [LINUX-390] SUSE SLES 9 default runlevel change > from 3 to 5 > > > Leonard, > > > I am wondering that suse had changed the default runlevel > from 3 (sles7 > & sles8) to 5 (sles9). > If you install a "minimal system", I don't think there is a difference > between 3 and 5: > > # chkconfig --list | grep 3:on > runlevel3 > # chkconfig --list | grep 5:on > runlevel5 > # diff runlevel3 runlevel5 > 12a13 > > xdm 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off > 5:on 6:off > > So the only difference between the two runlevels is the xdm service. > However with a minimal install and the default of runlevel 5, it seems > that xdm is not running: > > # runlevel > N 5 > # rcxdm status > Checking for service xdm: unused > > I'm not sure if xdm runs with a "default system" install. > > "Mike MacIsaac" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (845) 433-7061 > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, > send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO > LINUX-390 or visit > http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 > -------------------------------------------------------- If you are not an intended recipient of this e-mail, please notify the sender, delete it and do not read, act upon, print, disclose, copy, retain or redistribute it.
