The real issue is that DASD device numbers need to be added to the initrd, since that is what initializes them, not the kernel parmfile. Any time you change your system configuration, such as adding/removing DASD, adding LVM, etc., you really, really, need to re-run mkinitrd, and then re-run zipl.

One issue is in a default SuSE9 install, the "dasd=" is not used in the parmfile. If you add DASD and activate it via yast, the parmfile is not touched; yast will happily adds the new DASD to /etc/fstab until the /dev/dasdXX changes and then it won't boot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
