This disables MDC for the device, and ensures you do not cache data that is written elsewhere. If you want to share minidisks among z/VM systems you must implement the same CP directory on all systems (DirMaint Sattelite), and implement XLINK to prevent multiple userds writing to the same disk without knowing (well, afterwards you'll know :-)

That's true even on a single system. With Linux you can not reliably read a disk while someone is writing to it. :plug type=friday. Does everyone use the proper link mode in the directory when sharing disks? If you use 'R' rather than the common 'RR' the virtual machine will not get the read link when it is in write. You may not be able to run without the disk, but you will know sooner than when you try. The same for doing the updates. If you try to link it 'W' rather than 'MR' you can be sure not to get a write link while others are reading it. :eplug.
