Hi all,
we have brand new DS8000 installed here and defined some 3390 Mod. 54
for large DB's in SLES9-guests (FICON attached, ECKD).
Although CMS supports only up to Mod. 27 we simply used ICKDSF from z/OS
1.6
for writing VOL1 and a VTOC on CYL0 (for setting dasds online to z/OS for
backup)
and defined Mdisks of 65519 Cyls. to SLES9-guests.
SLES9-guests can access these Mdisks and work with them. Dasds are
PAV-gen'ed
(static) but only basic address are specified in CP-directory.
Since I followed the former threads I should say: EVMS and PAV-aliases
will be possibly the next step.
But up to now we run into problems defining LVM2-groups including these
large Mdisks. After definition SLES9-guest comes not up properly,
only in S-mode (maintenance).
Does anybody uses an ECKD-Pool of a DS8000 for those purposes ? Is the
DS8000
supported in SLES9 ? We run z/VM 5.1 with RSU-level 5103; patches for
SLES9
included until yesterday.
thanks in advance
ciao Lutz
P.S. Off course we know that there is a second choice here - usage of a FB
Pool
and FCP-channels. But since z/OS does not support their usage, we
would loose
some flexibility ...
