Faster development (much of the hard stuff for implementing solutions on z/OS already exists on Linux), cheaper deploymen t (can use IFL instead of std engine, no ISV/IBM software licensing penalty for increasing IFL capacity), possible reduction in size of std engine investment, corresponding decrease in ISV/IBM z/OS software bill). > Would this move save zOS CPU cycles? Definitely, particularly if you are constrained by the collateral cost of additional std engine resources. HW price is seldom the problem; the ISV and IBM software licenses are the deadly bit. > Would stability be the same as under zOS? If properly engineered, it will be acceptable. > why are people doing it? Cost, speed to market, and compensation for most reaonably priced programmers being unable to create an efficient program on *any* platform let alone understand the mainframe environment well enough to program efficiently for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
