Alan,

Thank you for responding. To give more information it is running under
Unix System Services (z/os v1.4) using syslogd and then I am going to
ship to a z/linux LPAR running SUSE SLES 8.
You were correct I entered the cmd you suggested and PSSQLID did not
come back. The name from the list I am wanting is PS831P. I have entered
the 3 part notation such "*.PS831P.* /var/log/pserv" and when I restart
syslog, it doesn't like it. It seems to only want the 2 part like "*.*".

I think you need to specify "*.PSSQLID.* /var/log/pserver", or maybe
"*.PSSQLID*.* /var/log/psrever". I am guessing, but I have something
like that for filtering FTP messages.

Note that it is the jobname that is used for filtering, not the user ID
or process name. Try doing a "ps -e -o jobname, args" and see if you get
something other than PSSQLID.

Subject: Syslog.conf question

I am in need of some direction or advice

We are running peoplesoft process schedulers under Unix . What I
want to do is log activities of these process schedulers to a log file.
In particuliar is when it is started and stopped. I am also going to
ship the log to another system for monitoring. I have gotten the log
shipping process to work, but am not picking up any activity from the
process schedulers. In the syslog.conf I thought I could specify as
below... Maybe I can't do what I am trying to do, this way.

PSSQLID.* /var/log/pserver

Or

*.* /var/log/daemons
