Assuming that you mean that you want to use the same logicla unit _number_
for several Linux guests (while actually using different logical units or
disks)
... well, that is called LUN mapping and is a function of storage arrays.
LUN mapping can make the personalisation of of cloned images with
regard to FCP unnecessary.
It requires that SCSI initiators (Linux guests) can be distinguished
by FCP target devices by their WWPNs, so that storage arrays can apply
LUN mappings based on initiator WWPNs. That means, it only
works with N_Port Identifier Virtualization (NPIV), a recent enhancement
of Fibre Channel standards that provides unique SAN identities for
virtual HBAs (FCP subchannels) hosted by the same physical HBA
(FCP CHPID or PCHID). NPIV is available with System z9 and
some newer switches.

Too bad LUNs can't be virtualized the way DASD can.

How about:
-) Have a system to be cloned (golden image) mounted on a cloning system
(controller)
-) Chroot to it
-) Modify networking info, host name, LUN, etc in appropriate files
-) mkinitrd
-) zipl
-) exit
Now you have a LUN that can be copied and should IPL correctly.
(you may then want to go back and reset the text files in the golden image
to a known state)

That's basically what the clone script is in the "LPAR to Virtual Servers
in Two Days" redbook is. It utilizes VM's FLASHCOPY command - I guess
there is no parallel to the "h/w services to copy the LUN.", so the
process would have to be more manual.
