I attended a presentation at Share that had good info- session 9267 if you have access to them. /etc/sysconfig/hardware should be for hardware devices and /etc/sysconfig/network for logical interfaces. There's supposed to be a script to convert your 2.4 chandev.conf into 2.6 hwcfg-files. The script is /etc/sysconfig/hardware/scripts/chandev-to-hwcfg.sh. In /etc/sysconfig/hardware you should end up with a file named something like hwcfg-qeth-bus-ccw-0.0.1004. Hope this helps.
