I attended a presentation at Share that had good info- session 9267 if you have
access to them.
/etc/sysconfig/hardware should be for hardware devices and
/etc/sysconfig/network for logical interfaces.
There's supposed to be a script to convert your 2.4 chandev.conf into 2.6
hwcfg-files. The script is /etc/sysconfig/hardware/scripts/chandev-to-hwcfg.sh.
In /etc/sysconfig/hardware you should end up with a file named something like
hwcfg-qeth-bus-ccw-0.0.1004. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the assistance, Betsie, but this is exactly what I'm talking about.

In my copy of SLES9 there is no file
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
in fact, there is no directory
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
at all.

I do have /etc/sysconfig/network which does contain a lot of ifcfg-xx files,
including ifcfg-qeth-bus-ccw-0.0.a001, which I've been experimenting with
trying to modify.

All the documentation I can find assumes network configuration files are in
different places with different names than I have.
