Hi Sam,
My /etc/nsswitch.conf has the following entries:
passwd: files ldap compat
shadow: files ldap compat
group: files ldap compat
Yous just have "compat". Maybe that's the problem ....
Anyway, my /etc/pam.d/login, also looks diferent of your
/etc/pam.d/sshd. Take a look:
#%PAM-1.0
auth required pam_nologin.so
auth sufficient pam_unix_auth.so
auth required pam_ldap.so try_first_pass
account sufficient pam_localuser.so
account required pam_ldap.so
password required pam_ldap.so use_first_pass use_authok
session required pam_unix_session.so
session required pam_limits.so
session required pam_env.so
session optional pam_mail.so
session required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=002
As I'm not very good at pam files ..... maybe there are diferent
arrangements that work almost the same way.
HTH.
