I'm putting together a Suse SLES 9 31bit (S390) system under z/VM 5.1.0 and want it to shut down automatically when I do CP SIGNAL SHUTDOWN. I have other Suse guests that are already doing this with no problem. However, they are all SLES 8 or SLES 9 64 bit systems.
I changed the /etc/inittab file to contain the proper "/sbin/shutdown -h now", just like the other systems. However, the SLES 9 31bit system seems to know nothing about it. It does not react to the CP SIGNAL at all, and z/VM ends up forcing the machine off. All the others still work fine. Has anyone else seen this problem? Is this a problem with the SLES 9 31bit kernel? I have applied all the latest patches for it.
