Where I don't know if Oracle really requires it.... In the Oracle installation manual for X86, it has doc about making sure there is an entry in the /etc/hosts file for your host and IP address (along with the loopback address).
Perhaps, it was to make sure that everything would be ok even if there isn't a DNS available. However, in my recent experience: No entry for your node in /etc/hosts...install doesn't work. Entry for your node in /etc/hosts.....install works. Good enought for me...for now. If everything else works, the Oracle damned well should. I'd be looking closely before deciding that this is true, but then maybe you have. -- Cheers John -- spambait [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tourist pics http://portgeographe.environmentaldisasters.cds.merseine.nu/ do not reply off-list ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
