I'm not sure about the Network folk aggregating changes. I'm not sure how they would know when I bring up a new host. They gave me a supernet of 4 class C networks (a little overkill). Where I can see that my host name may take a while to propagate thru DNS servers, the host trying to go out as a client, should be near immediate.
Also, when my PC was replaced, I got the same dynamic network pool for my IP addresses. And it still took till the next day before I could go out on the Web. Strange that when I install Linux, one of the final steps is to test the network communication. It always fails. But sometime later, I can then start pinging and ftping (and YOU) the outside world. I can always communicate within the mainframe as I have a zLinux host as an "install" ftp server. I just thought it was kind of weird that I couldn't get to the outside until "something" happened...automagically. Anyway, onward and downward! Is there such a thing in the network world? I can imagine that at larger concerns, the network folk might aggregate changes and apply them at regular intervals, perhaps at times to minimise disruption and maximising time available to recover from the occasional "unfortunate circumstance." > > Time to install another Linux image and see how long it takes to > initially get to the outside world.
