I have an Adaptec PCI DUO card in my Intel PC. It has both USB 2.0 and
Fireware 400 (IEEE 1394) on it. Works fine. I also have an Adaptec DUO
Cardbus on my Thinkpad which works. I run SuSE 9.3 on the desktop and
10.0 on the laptop.

Just to mention, since this is already off-topic. I just installed
Crossover Office on my Linux/Intel desktop system (P5, not the
Athlon64). It runs Quicken (my last major Windows application)
excellantly. I just got TurboTax and will see if it works with CX. If
so, I will no longer have any need for Windows, although I will likely
leave Win2K running on the current P4 system (I have 5 desktops - one
"dead" due to the CPU fan being inoperative - and 1 laptop - Thinkpad
R40e).

For speed, have you considered external SATA? My Athlon64, running SuSE
9.3, has its internal HD on SATA and it works excellently. From a fast
scan at CompUSA's web site, an external SATA/150 will run around $200 to
$250 for a 250Gb drive. There is a Buslink on the site which says it is
USB 2.0, Firewire/400, and/or SATA/150 for $200 for a 250Gb drive.
