The "official" IBM announcement letter had a "Statement of
Direction" (SOD) that the intention was that it would be released
in 2005, and would be for TXSeries *only*. I think that the
standard IBM "disclaimer" applies - "All statements regarding IBM's
plans, directions, and intent, are subject to change or
withdrawal without notice." Recall that it is now 2006...

As one that has "chatted/discussed" with IBM about CICS for
Linux for over 10 years, I thought that there was finally
progress when I saw the SOD. We were one of the few sites
with CICS for VM, and it was utilized during some classes
I taught at UF (years ago) - it was very *nice* to have each
student in their own virtual machine!

Speculation on my part is that there was more interest in
CICS for zLinux, and the potential for CICS customers moving
workload off of z/OS, to TXSeries platforms. More speculation
is that it's "ready and on the shelf", 'cause IBM had already
done CICS for OS/2 and CICS for AIX, etc. - a port to Linux
coulda/shoulda/woulda been moderately trivial, don't ya think?

I would argue that a CICS for Linux on TXSeries would be a
"really good thing", so that Linux advocates, users, coders,
educators, etc., could get (more) exposure to CICS, which might
eventually help *increase* CICS for z/OS licenses, etc., but this
is difficult when companies are quarterly profit driven. Then
there's HESC, but I digress...

I have a foil in my SHARE in Seattle (Why CICS? Why the
Mainframe? Why Now?) presentation about CICS for Linux,
and hope to get IBMers and/or attendees to "respond" to the foil.

Any comment from IBM before SHARE?

Steve ("Stick With CICS!").
