I would surmise that the problem is more related to not being in the proper directory structure that the SLES9 installer expects. You can't just dump everything into one directory and have it work, which is why Mike MacIsaac developed the mksles9root script in the first place. (See http://linuxvm.org/Patches/#mksles9root for the most current version.)
