I think an ssh terminal session is not the most usefull first function of the
ssh suite to code. In the long run it would be nice for it to do a 'DUMB'
terminal session. What I was thinking of the first function that should be
coded is passing a command to the remote system.

   sshcmd [EMAIL PROTECTED] "/etc/init.d/mysql stop"

I would hope to get back the linemode responses from that single command.
