Hi, Rich .. Would definitely suggest you run with more than one paging volume .. Looks like you may be hitting high page limit which affects block paging.
We run with the following srm settings but aren't currently memory or paging constrained. IABIAS : INTENSITY=100%; DURATION=2 LDUBUF : Q1=100% Q2=100% Q3=100% STORBUF: Q1=300% Q2=250% Q3=200% DSPBUF : Q1=32767 Q2=32767 Q3=32767 DISPATCHING MINOR TIMESLICE = 1 MS MAXWSS : LIMIT=9999% ...... : PAGES=999999 XSTORE : 25% -----Original Message----- From: Rich Blair [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, March 24, 2006 2:39 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: SuSe9 hanging on VM 5.1 Thank you for you replies. Here is what I did: 1 - I ran this command on each SuSe9 Linux: sysctl -w kernel.hz_timer=0. This removed them from constantly sitting in Q3; they popped in and out of Q1 and Q2. 2 - I reduced the size of each linux on the system. 3 - I stopped any Linux instance that was not necessary to run on the system. It ran fine for a few hours until a developer got on and started doing her thing and then it hung. I had to recycle it. Here are the some current stats. q alloc page EXTENT EXTENT TOTAL PAGES HIGH % VOLID RDEV START END PAGES IN USE PAGE USED ------ ---- ---------- ---------- ------ ------ ------ ---- 510RAG 2575 0 3338 601020 238140 600691 39% ------ ------ ---- SUMMARY 601020 238140 39% USABLE 601020 238140 39% Ready; T=0.01/0.01 05:27:04 q srm IABIAS : INTENSITY=90%; DURATION=2 LDUBUF : Q1=100% Q2=75% Q3=60% STORBUF: Q1=125% Q2=105% Q3=95% DSPBUF : Q1=32767 Q2=32767 Q3=32767 DISPATCHING MINOR TIMESLICE = 5 MS MAXWSS : LIMIT=9999% ...... : PAGES=999999 XSTORE : 0% Thanks. How much central storage and how much expanded storage do you have? What does Q ALLOC PAGE show? What does Q SRM show? What is the total memory of all your active Linux guests (and can you afford to have some Linuxes shutdown and logged off)? Do you have the hz_timer off on Linuxes that are not heavily loaded?
