For a SUSE system, the correct method is to use YaST. No rebooting is
needed in any case, however. This is a dynamic, non-disruptive change.

Subject: Re: Setting Hostname in SuSE Linux image on VM

When I mess around with HOSTNAME I use rpl
(http://www.laffeycomputer.com/rpl.html), signal shutdown and then
xautolog the guest.

For SUSE SLES9 rpl makes changes in the following files:

linux5:~ # uname -r
2.6.5-7.252-s390x

linux5:~ # rpl -Rs "linux5" "linux6" /etc
Simulating replacement of "linux5" with "linux6" (case sensitive)
(partial words matched) The files listed below would be modified in a
replace operation.
  /etc/HOSTNAME
  /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key.pub
  /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key
  /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key.pub
  /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
  /etc/postfix/main.cf
  /etc/aliases.db

I'm not sure if there are better ways to do this, but this has worked
for me for quite a while now.

Regards,

Kevin
