Either way, but I'm guessing LVM is more in your control.  You can create
a logical volume of two 3390-3s to give you 4.4GB for /usr/ during the
SLES9 install.

To do this during the install is not the most intuitive. It is written up
in section 7.5 of The Virtualization Cookbook.
