If what you say is true, then 0.0.1000 should appear before 0.0.2500 .
Just curious.  Because the output from mkinitrd matches the output from the
command "lsdasd" which puts 0.0.1000 as the last entry.

As to your suggestion " using persistent device names "  , can you
elaborate .

No, unfortunately not.
mkinitrd includes all _activated_ DASDs, in numerical order.

If you need a specific order I'd suggest using persistent device names.
