Now that my Linux partition is up, how do I get the external DNS server to know its name? The DNS chapter in SG24-4987 describes a lot about how DNS works and how to forward requests to our company's DNS server (in fact it looks like the installation process set that up after asking me for the IP address of the DNS server) - but it doesn't say how this host's name gets associated with its IP address in DNS. Is that a manual or automatic process?
