Have you actually configured the device online to the Linux LPAR?

Subject: adding a qeth device

Hi dear List,

I am about to add a hipersocket device to our Linux RHEL4 LPAR/z-series.

The driver documentation suggests:

echo <read_device_bus_id>,<write_device_bus_id>,<data_device_bus_id> >
 /sys/bus/ccwgroup/drivers/qeth/group

But this command does not do anything visible, the file "group" keeps
being empty -
and when listing the directory "qeth", I get the following result:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] qeth]# ls -la /sys/bus/ccwgroup/drivers/qeth
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Apr 11 13:55 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Mar 9 10:19 ..
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root    0 Apr 11 13:55 0.0.0408 ->
../../../../devices/qeth/0.0.0408
--w----r-- 1 root root 0 Apr 12 12:57 group
--w------- 1 root root 4096 Apr 11 13:55 notifier_register

That is: the first device, an OSA-card, is a symbolic link directly
under .../qeth/.
So I suppose the echo command should nont contain "group".

Is this a documentation mistake or am I just too much of a beginner?

thanks,
Anna
