On our DS6800, PAV support is a chargeable option. Is it chargable on your box and/or did you pay for it?
One thing to consider in favor of some large volumes (when they don't get in the way of performace), is something about the total number of addresses available. I think I have either 256 or 512 available. No problem with 4 TB to have all 3390-3 volumes. But then we starting planning/budgetting for 6000 unit. Perhaps 150 GB drives (2 TB) or with 300 GB drives (4 TB). I haven't gone thru this on paper yet, but in the back of my mind, I think I there is an address limitation problem when I start getting in the 6-8 TB subsystems.
