Like Massimiliano said - normally you have apache ( or IBM's version IHS )
listening on port 80. Apache ( or IHS ) has a plugin that will
forward any request that needs to be processed by WAS to WAS who is
listening on 9080.

You want this because apache will act like a valve on requests coming into
WAS and will allow WAS to run more efficiently and give you more consistent
response times during heavy load.
