Not in single-user mode.  The point of that runlevel is to not have
networking enabled.

You could always link the pack to a functioning guest and then mount it and
either edit files directly or chroot*.  The other alternative for repairing
something is to boot the install kernel/initrd/parm and then SSH in and
repair things without doing an install.
