Hercules does a fine job of running MVS 3.8, and at one time

it, but if you can find an emulated Zed that is fast enough
to do your work, you really should be running that workload
on the emulator's host and ditch the Zed. The umulated
environment will give you the worst of both, weak CPU

FWIW, I just finished installin SLES-10-RC3 on Hercules/390 running on
an AMD Athlon64 3200+. I got a sustained MIPS rating around 35. Of
Presumably CPU performance of SLE10 running natively on the A would be
about equivalent to 350 Meaningless whatits:-)
The native I/O would be better too, around 60 Mbytes/sec unless you have
something fancy.
course, this is at home. So I cannot do any testing of interoperability
with my z/OS system at work.
Don't worry about interoperability for the moment; how do zed's CPU and
I/O compare?
Would the Herc be able to run any kind of workload that justifies buying
a zBox?
