The filesystems at /sys, /proc and /dev will generally contain no useful
information in terms of doing a backup, and wouldn't be restorable even if
backed up.

/sys and /proc are used by the kernel. Such things as the system's real memory
are mapped to files within /proc, and backing this up would be equivalent to
taking a dump of the system, except probably less useful, because the tools
probably wouldn't read it. There are lists of installed modules, active
filesystems, active tasks, and lots of other useful though cryptic information
stored down the /proc path, but none of it needs to be backed up. It's all
dynamically created and constantly changing.

Subject: Question on /sys/devices/qeth

Hello, First time posting on here, but enjoy going through the emails.

quick backround.
Running sles 9 under VM 5.2

I was using rsync to do a few directory level backups, and get a handfull
of permission denied on /sys/devices/qeth files.
It seems these files are --w------- only. Can someone give me a
reason why, and if it would be ok to change them to rw?
Thanks.
