Hi list,

I've been able to activate the bad login logs located in /var/log/btmp in
SLES9, but I am still struggling to activate it in SLES8.

Unfortunately, this seems not to be working out of the box.

In SLES9, I had to create this file under /var/log :
-rw------- 1 root utmp 800 2006-08-04 10:18 btmp

Since the original file was :
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root utmp 0 2005-12-06 06:30 btmp

...and probably for security reasons, it was not logging to a world readable
file, which is good.

After I created that file, I was able to monitor bad logins on my test
machine.

Unfortunately, the same trick seems not to be valid for SLES8.

Anybody have a clue ?
