I am using SLES10 and can't find anything in the manuals regarding the

Originally I recall that there was a performance benefit for using
the diag mode driver under Linux. Is this still the case? Where
can I find some information to read regarding this?

There is a small benefit in synthetic benchmarks, but you're probably
not going to swap enough to notice. Considering the additional
complexity for setting up the diag driver, using the FBA driver might
be already good enough.

PS When I find a real life application that behaves more like my
synthetic benchmark, the recommendation may change again ;-)
