Ranga, my google searches for that message eventually got me to believe
that the other host (in my case an appliance thingie) was not supporting
TCP. You can determine that with a
rpcinfo -p <ipofserverhost>
The error message was different with sles9 vs. sles8.

Subject: Re: [LINUX-390] NFS over TCP - what entries needed in
/etc/services?
I am seeing these start-up errors:
Starting nfsboot (sm-notify) ..done
Importing Net File System (NFS)mount server reported tcp not
available, falling
back to udp
mount: RPC: Program not registered
mount server reported tcp not available, falling back to udp
mount: RPC: Program not registered
I do see many rpc entries but I am not sure what he is complaining
about.
For those with nfs over tcp working, what entries do you see for rpc in
your /etc/services?
Thanks
