Bacula server on Linux, with hipersocket connection to MVS. Configure
NFS server on MVS to export a couple of mod-26 or mod-57 volumes to the
Bacula server on Linux. Configure Bacula to use a disk-based backup
scheme. Do backups from the data base server instances to the Bacula
server. Allow DFSMShsm on MVS to migrate the datasets containing the
Bacula tape image files from the NFS-exported volumes to the VTS.

If NFS is not an option, run the Bacula storage daemon on USS with
backup data configured to go to disk. Again, let DFSMShsm do the heavy
lifting to tape.

Done.
