A little weird, eh?  :-) CP assigns a virtual MAC to all NICs, even
virtual Hipersockets, but it doesn't get used for anything, except to make
apps that insist on MACs happy.  I think Linux may only do this if
fake_ll=yes is specified; I don't remember for sure.

On a real Hipersocket, the MAC address is not shown since the h/w doesn't
support it.

In either case, traffic is directed by IP address, not MAC, and no ARP is
performed.
