Marist College gives out z/VM guests to their computer science students (they
may have a different name for the program). They also offer so-called distance
learning. I don't know if the two intersect or not, but it would be worth
checking into.

I would recommend looking into attending SHARE (just past and again in August),
WAVV (coming up in May), or IBM's zSeries Expo later this year. You can get
_some_ hands on experience at those conferences. Plus, there are all sorts of
presentations on linuxvm.org and SHARE's web site. I'm not sure about zSeries
Expo.
