Make sure the dasd modules are loaded (dasd_mod, dasd_diag_mod, dasd_fba_mod, dasd_eckd_mod) and try again. If that doesn't help look in the output of 'dmesg' for error messages. Also have a look at the 'availability' attribute of the device (cat /sys/bus/ccw/devices/0.0.4549/availability) - anything other than 'good' indicates problems outside of Linux.
