This is configurable, in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. Not recommended, necessarily, but possible. -snip- > Of course, the basic question is why does this process require root? Lots of things require root. Whether this is one of them that truly needs it is unknown. The additional logging provided by sudo might be valuable in this instance as well.
