Hello, our team has formatted the scenario below and we need some directions
and feedback.
Issue: Accessing a Microsoft (MS) SQL Server Database from Debian LINUX
Running on an 390 Mainframe
Problem: current Debian Linux installation does not support the MSSQL
extensions of PHP.
Background: Running Debian LINUX Version 3.1 under Z/VM V 5.2. We have
two applications that need to share data in separate database systems. One
application utilizes a database in a Microsoft SQL server and the second
application uses a database in a MySQL database running on the Debian Linux
server. MySQL version 4.0.18; MS SQL server version 2000
Goal: development writes a script in PHP to run under the Apache Web Server
running on the Debian LINUX installation that accesses both database systems
The Requirements:
To access (READ) information stored in a Microsoft SQL data base. Utilizing
A PHP program; running on a LINUX Apache Web Server, to have update (WRITE)
the information to a MYSQL database running on LINUX guest
Questions:
Does Debian have a package for the environment described above that
installs the PHP MS-SQL extensions? We have looked and do not see any.
If Debian does not have such a package, are you aware of other
installations of Linux for the System 390 that support this environment?
Although it seems cumbersome, would it be possible to recompile PHP
in Debian for System 390 and include these extensions? If so, are there any
other prerequisites (such as an ODBC driver) that would be required?
Thank you, Our Team
